5 major music events hitting D-FW this fall

Spring and summer bring their fair share of outdoor music fun, but the fall is every bit as enticing when it comes to bringing great tunes indoors. D-FW's largest venues, such as AT&T Stadium and American Airlines Center, have schedules packed with top-name talent, as do smaller spots like the Kessler and Dada. Here are some of our favorites.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z: On the Run II

There's no other couple who could justifiably pack one of the largest stadiums in the land the way the Carters can. They've done it before, when Beyoncé and Jay-Z brought their On the Run tour to JerryWorld in 2014. But this time, music's first couple is touring on the strength of Everything Is Love, a stellar collaborative album. Sept. 11 at AT&T Stadium, Arlington.

Austin City Limits in D-FW

Each fall, D-FW hosts bands making their way to and from the Austin City Limits festival. This year indie-rock king the National and chameleonic British rockers Arctic Monkeys will hit town for the first time in several years, while other notable acts including Puerto Rican rapper Residente, fresh-faced classic rock band Greta Van Fleet and Talking Heads icon David Byrne are swinging back through town close to their festival appearances. Oct. 3-9 at various venues.

Roy Orbison (sort of) in Grand Prairie

The miracles of modern technology never cease. There's now hope that we can see our favorite dearly departed singers, thanks to hologram technology. The craze began with a Tupac hologram in 2012 at Coachella, with long-gone icons Ronnie James Dio and Michael Jackson receiving the virtual-life treatment recently. Texas-native Roy Orbison, who died in 1988, comes back to life this fall for a 28-stop tour. Oct. 24 at the Theatre at Grand Prairie.

Elton John's farewell tour

As for living musical legends, they too shall never die, thanks to the songs they give us. Lately, though, plenty have been saying goodbye to touring. Metal titan Slayer and even Paul Simon have bid adieu in 2018, among others. After 50 years on the road, piano-rock man Elton John brings his Farewell Yellow Brick Road show to town. Dec. 14-15 at American Airlines Center, Dallas.
