Surprise! Leon Bridges played for a pre-draft party at The Rustic

In a week already filled with great concerts in the DFW area, silky soul singer Leon Bridges slid under the radar and into Dallas.

Wednesday night had Eric B. and Rakim at the Bomb Factory and Queens of the Stone Age at Toyota Music Factory. Now, we know it also had Bridges, the homegrown talent who ascended to the national stage on the strength of his throwback sounds.

A brief resume: His album debuted at No. 1 on the R&B chart in July of 2015. He played Saturday Night Live and the Tonight Show, among other big stages. Then he played Bonnaroo, Jimmy Kimmel LiveToday and for President Obama in 2016, and he also toured that year. In 2017, he encountered a bump in the road after being deemed a controversial pick for Black Heritage Day at the Houston Rodeo and rode out like a champ, keeping his profile moving even higher.
