Kelly Clarkson shared the heartbreaking news with Attitude magazine: "When I was really skinny, I wanted to kill myself."
The winner of Season 1 of American Idol says that in the mid-2000s, she was "at the gym all the time" and was "miserable."
Clarkson hopped back into the conversation on Tuesday, Oct. 24 to clarify. "I wasn't ever miserable because I had to be thin," she tweeted. "I said I was miserable and as a result I became thin."
The Texas singer -- the woman called "a music-industry unicorn" by The New York Times recently -- has endured public scrutiny for her weight. She's long been an advocate for acceptance, even clapping back to a person who body shamed her on Twitter.
She explained in Attitude magazine how she overcame thoughts of suicide:
"I was around some really negative people, and I got out of it because I had a lot of great people there too," she told Attitude, speaking of a positive change she made in 2007. "It was a case of turning around, facing them and walking toward the light."
