We know that we can eat, drink and watch football at The Star in Frisco, the $1.5 billion, 90-acre new development in one of Dallas' most affluent suburbs. Now we know we can also listen to big-name concerts without driving down to the big city.
The Star announced that James Taylor & His All-Star Band and Bonnie Raitt will perform at the Ford Center on July 31 in Frisco. The performance is part of a 17-city tour for Taylor and Raitt and includes some pretty iconic venues such as Fenway Park in Boston and Wrigley Field in Chicago. (It's Taylor's third year in a row to play at Fenway and his second to perform at Wrigley.)
Tickets for the Frisco concert go on sale at 10 a.m. March 10 via Ticketmaster. Prices start at $36.
"We're thrilled to bring such an iconic performer like James Taylor to Ford Center at The Star in Frisco," says Jerry Jones Sr., owner of the Dallas Cowboys. "There is no better artist to help us debut the first of many incredible entertainment experiences at The Star."
The Star will play host to all kinds of events. A few items currently on the calendar are a Dallas Opera simulcast -- a way to make the opera accessible (and free); a Texas Tech spring football scrimmage; and some youth sports camps.
The James Taylor concert signals a shift: that The Star is going to be a major destination for concerts.
The Ford Center at The Star seats 12,000 people, says the website, though this gig can accommodate up to 17,000 people because there will be seats on the field. (Not sure where the Ford Center is? You likely know it as the same building that houses the Dallas Cowboys' new locker room.) The Ford Center is also home base for Frisco ISD's football games.
Multiple Grammy winner Taylor has been making music for more than four decades and has sold more than 100 million albums. The "You've Got a Friend" singer released the album Before This World in 2015. It was his first new studio album in more than a decade.
Raitt has won 10 Grammy awards and has been called one of the greatest musicians of all time from Rolling Stone. She, like Taylor, is a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer. Expect "Something To Talk About" and "I Can't Make You Love Me," of course, as well as some newer songs.
