Starplex music venue in Dallas may not be named Starplex after all

If you were one of the local music lovers who felt giddy about Gexa Energy Pavilion reverting to its prior life as Starplex, you may want to quell your nostalgia for a hot minute.

The Dallas music venue is anticipating yet another name change.

Debra Duffy, vice president of communications for Live Nation, which books and produces concerts there, confirmed with GuideLive the company is currently soliciting buyers for the naming rights. (Central Track first reported the news.)

"We are in the process of talking with several brands to be the title sponsor of the Starplex Pavilion and we of course always welcome new inquiries," Duffy said by email.

The reason the venue is currently being called Starplex, after all, is because its deal with Gexa Energy expired. Live Nation is hoping to have a new sponsor in place by the time Kings of Leon, Train, Deftones, and more come through for the 2017 concert season.

And if not?

"We will continue to talk to brands who are interested," Duffy said.

Whatever it's called, Starplex/Gexa/Superpages.com/Smirnoff will feel different than previous years by the time spring comes. The venue, which opened in 1988, is currently under construction as part of an $8 million makeover to improve bathrooms, video screens, and VIP areas, as well as to add new seating.
