What a year it's been for Maren Morris, the Nashville country artist who hails from Arlington.
After winning New Artist of the Year at the Country Music Association (CMA) awards, our local starlet has now been chosen to be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live on Dec. 10.
Bands such as Lady Antebellum, Zac Brown Band and Chris Stapleton have won New Artist of the Year at the CMAs. Perhaps unsurprisingly, all three of those bands (and so many more) have also performed on SNL. By scoring the NBC big gig, "My Church" singer Morris joins a fleet of music royalty: This fall alone, SNL's 42nd season has brought Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga and the Weeknd to the stage.
Morris has recently performed with Alicia Keys on CMT Crossroads and is expected to appear on Chelsea Handler's Netflix series Chelsea, Rolling Stone reports. She's Billboard's Women in Music breakout star this year.
Her single "My Church" has more than 21 million views on YouTube.
Expect Morris to be "dressed like an ornament" on her Dec. 10 SNL debut, when wrestler John Cena will be the host.
