Andre 3000 has been apologizing to Erykah Badu's mom, popularly known as "Ms. Jackson," since Outkast's smash hit by the same name hit the airwaves in 2000. This month, the Dallas-based songstress told Rap Radar how the lady of honor really felt about the song.
Spoiler alert: Fabulous!
"Baby she bought her a 'Ms. Jackson' license plate. She had the mug, she had the ink pen, she had the headband, everything," she told the podcast hosts. "That's who loved it."
Badu herself was more reserved about the tune, which was written after she and Andre 3000 broke up and hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
"I still had a kinda sore spot, you know? I didn't want to hear that," Badu said. "Then when I heard Andre's verse, I felt really good because his verse was really, really inspiring ... it was his honest feelings and I always respected that."
Badu and Andre 3000 still maintain a friendly relationship, due in no small part to their son, Seven, who is now 19 and attending college. The two collaborated on a song called "Hello," which came out on Badu's 2015 mixtape But You Cain't Use My Phone, and that story alone is testament to the kind of magic between them. Andre even showed up at Badu's 45th birthday party in Dallas earlier this year.
