Frisco drummer, 12, who was a finalist in KidzBop Talent Search, still has a lot going on

Drummer Maren Alford, 12, of Frisco stood more than a chance to win the KidzBop + Crazy 8 Talent Search.

But she didn't.

KidzBop officials announced singer William Alexander from Staten Island as the winner on Monday afternoon.

But it seems Maren, who was one of 10 finalists vying for the grand prize, is still in contention for everything else.

She just started playing drums just three years ago; the seventh-grader has already made a name for herself. She was a finalist and voted a fan favorite for the 2015 International Hit Like a Girl drumming contest. She plays in Three at Four, a rock band that plays local gigs and charity events.

"Her favorite part about performing is the response/interaction with the audience, and seeing and hearing them enjoy the music," read a biography submitted to KidzBop. "She was thrilled to be selected as one of the Top 10 finalists."

And, though she didn't win, her resume gives her plenty of time to shine.

It doesn't end with the sticks.

Maren is also a singer, dancer and professional actor.

She was in the North Texas Performing Arts production of School of Rock -- The Musical, playing drummer Freddie Hamilton. She's a student at Cathryn Sullivan's Acting for Film in Lewisville. Sullivan's greatest hits include Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Debby Ryan and Cody Linley, just to name a few.

The contest biography notes that Maren entered the KidzBop competition because she thought it "would be exciting to be in a KidzBop video."

The KidzBop Kids helped choose Alexander, who wins a trip to LA for the video and a Crazy 8 shopping spree.

Maren was in good company: She was one of three finalists from the great state of Texas.

She entered with a cover of Dave Matthews Band's "Tripping Billies."

The other two finalists from Texas auditioned during a live event at Ingram Park Mall in San Antonio.

Malia Barker, 11, and Ayah Marie Aly, 9 are both singers.

Malia played guitar and sang "Blue" in a voice beyond her years. Effortless.

Ayah Marie sang an almost Broadway-worthy "I Dreamed a Dream" to secure her spot among the finalists.

Contestants had to be 14 or younger.

KidzBop knows it can find talent in North Texas.

Rapper Dallas Wayde, also a native of Frisco, was the KIDZ Star USA 2012 winner. He won a record deal. And Dallasite Grant Knoche is part of the KidzBop Kids, which tours behind the music series that turns Top 40 hits into family friendly songs.
