Boom 94.5 music fest moves the music inside to Fair Park Coliseum

Updated April 29, 2016: The Boom 94.5 festival Saturday has moved the music indoors to Fair Park Coliseum because of the threat of weather.

Vendors will still be outside, and if you bring a tent as some people did last time, it'll have to stay out there, too.

The radio station is calling it an "indoor-outdoor" party.

Original story: Boom 94.5 could have very well dropped the mic after announcing details about its spring music festival during a press conference Wednesday at City Hall.

An audible gasp came from the almost-full Flag Room when the lineup was unveiled for the Boom 94.5 Music Festival: The Evolution of Hip-Hop on April 30. And the acts are enough to make any hip-hop head nod in agreement. The show will be carved into sections:

The Reunion: A No Limit reunion of sorts, with Master P, Mystikal, Silkk the Shocker and Mia X (!)

The Legends: Kurtis Blow; Whodini's Jalil and Ecstacy; and Big Daddy Kane

Women MCs: Da Brat; Lil Mo; and Yo Yo

Texas talent: Mike Jones ("Who?"), who was in attendance; Lil' Keke; and DSR (Big Tuck was at the conference, too)

DJs: DJ Jubilee; and Big Daddie the DJ, who was also at the press conference

Local jazz man Don Diego will also play a hip-hop medley on his sax in his inimitable way to teach the audience about hip-hop's roots.

On-air talent from the popular radio station with an even more popular classic hip-hop format will also play a part in the festival. Morning show hosts Ed Lover and Monie Love, who will also perform (hopefully in the middle), will serve as hosts. They will be joined by other on-air personalities including Mark McCrazy and Indy Bee and Cindi B. Comedian D. Elli$, also known as "Mr. Entertainment." will host, too.

"The Evolution of Hip-Hop" is scheduled for April 30 from 2 to 11:30 p.m. at Fair Park for the low: $20 online through March 11. The open-air festival will be located near the Coliseum and take up a larger space than last year's show that attracted folks willing to sit a spell and pitch a tent or two. Gates will open at 1, with parking open at 11 a.m.

Dallas City Council member Tiffinni A. Young presided over the press conference to announce the festival that will occur in her district. The council came out in force, including Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Erik Wilson and Philip Kingston.

At that price, it might not have even mattered who showed at the press conference or even who was on the bill. But act fast: Tickets will go up to $25 from March 12-April 29 and will be $30 the day of the show and available at the gate.

But wait, there's more: Boom 94.5 promises more to come today at 5:30. And to think, the mic already sounds so nice.
