Reports: Recent 'Voice' winner, Dallas singer Craig Wayne Boyd, released from record label

Singer Craig Wayne Boyd had the ultimate story on NBC reality show The Voice: He was cut from the competition two times and saved two times. It feels good to root for the underdog, but that's not exactly a fair word, as Boyd's country sound seemed universally likable in Season 7 despite his ups and downs.

The Dallas-turned-Nashville singer returned to The Voice Tuesday night to perform the song "I'm Still Here" -- a bit of an odd name for a song from a guy who just made it into the spotlight.

Though perhaps it was appropriate: Yahoo reports that his 5-month stint under the label Dot Records/Big Machine has come to an end. Dot Records also reps up-and-coming country stars Maddie & Tae.

As Yahoo points out, Boyd "has joined Season 2's Jermaine Paul and Season 6's Josh Kaufman on a growing, non-illustrious list of Voice champs who never got to release a major-label album."

It's not too late for Boyd. After all, his song "My Baby's Got a Smile on Her Face" debuted at No. 1 at the end of 2014, Rolling Stone reports. But he'll need to find a new label, it sounds like.
