Grateful Dead just added two concerts in Cali, but tickets are only available through Tuesday

Big news for Dead Heads across the country: There are now two more opportunities to catch the Grateful Dead in full before the band rolls away for good.

According to an announcement Friday, the band will play two nights (June 27 and 28) at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., the weekend prior to its final three nights at Soldier Field in Chicago. Phish front man Trey Anastasio and esteemed keyboardists Bruce Hornsby and Jeff Chimenti will join original members Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann, Mickey Hart and Bob Weir at these shows.

"Since we made the decision to go back to Chicago to say our final goodbye, it has become clear to us that we first need to return to our beginnings, where we first said hello - to each other and to all of you," said Friday's announcement. "And so it is that we have decided to plug in for two additional shows on June 27 and 28 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California..."

The announcement comes after overwhelming demand for tickets the Fare Thee Well: Celebrating 50 Years of Grateful Dead concert series, being held July 3-5. The band received more than 60,000 mail orders -- yes, snail mail orders -- many of which requested tickets for all three nights. According to Bloomberg, the band's ticketing agency was only able to fill 10 percent of the demand.

For the Santa Clara shows, the Grateful Dead has rethought its approach: It is now offering an online mail order service, but hopeful fans can only order through Tuesday, April 14. The system requires a form be filled out and that all tickets for one party be requested at the same time. There's a four ticket limit per person.

Tickets are running $59.50-$199.50 via the official site. The band said in its note Friday that it will not be adding any additional dates. For more information, visit www.dead50.net/santa-clara.
