Skim over the 250-plus bands playing 35 Denton music festival and it's likely there are many names you won't recognize. But that's kind of the point -- the fest, which invades 13 local venues and two outdoor stages March 13-15, is known for booking up-and-comers.
To help with your discovery of new acts throughout the festival weekend, we chose one from each participating venue you don't want to miss.
1. The Deer (Austin): melodic, easy listening folk music. Playing March 13 at 9 p.m. at Harvest House.
2. Ded Kra-Z & Princess Eud (Haiti): upbeat world and hip-hop fusion; playing March 14 at 6 p.m. at Dan's Silverleaf.
3. The Zombies (England): vintage pop; playing March 14 at 8 p.m. on the main stage.
4. Dome Dwellers (Denton): rough- around-the-edges pop; playing March 14 at 10 p.m. at J&J's Pizza on the Square.
5. Jazz Mills (Austin): smooth lounge vibes; playing March 14 at 10:30 p.m. at West Oak Coffee Bar.
6. Kim and the Created (Los Angeles): shoe-gazing punk; March 14 at 10:30 p.m. at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studio.
7. Conrad Clifton (Brooklyn, N.Y.): downtempo electronic beats; playing March 14 at 11:30 p.m. at the Abbey Underground.
