Like other Disney films, 'Guardians of the Galaxy' is much cuter when told with emoji

It might be rated PG-13, but parts of Guardians of the Galaxy are pretty adorable. (I mean, have you seen Baby Groot?) But Disney found a good way to make the movie more adorable and more family-friendly: Retell it in emoji form.

In a four-minute video released on YouTube, Marvel Studios' hit sci-fi comic adaption is retold entirely with cute animated faces on a fake iPhone text message screen. There is no voiced dialogue, but they animators managed to cram the entire story of Star-Lord's first adventure with Groot, Gamora, Rocket and Drax into one hilarious cartoon, complete with Easter eggs and meta humor involving the emoji characters stealing icons from the phone and breaking out of the screen and into Photoshop.

It's not an ideal way to experience the story for the first time, but it might serve as a fun way to refresh your memory on how that movie played out before you go see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Unsurprisingly, you can buy the emoji stickers seen in the video to use in your own iOS messages, but it will cost you $1.99.

This is not the first "Told by Emoji" video Disney has produced. Frozen first got the treatment back in 2015, but the company has since done emoji versions of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Zootopia, Beauty and the Beast, Moana and several other popular Disney movies.
