This Fair Park museum is the only of its kind in the Southwest. The 38,000-square-foot museum, built in the shape of a cross, showcases the rich heritage of black art and history in four vaulted galleries. The permanent collections include African art; African-American fine art; the Billy R. Allen Folk Art Collection; and magazine, historical, political and community archives.

Admission is $10, $5 for children ages 4-12, and free for members. Seniors ages 65 and older are admitted free on Thursdays. The museum is closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. During the State Fair, the museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. - From staff reports
