All the Details

The Uptown Theater opened in 1950 as a first-run movie theater with 1,100 seats and also included a small stage for live performances. It continued to operate as a movie house well into the 1990s, after which it was intermittently leased as a church meeting space. In 2005, the City of Grand Prairie purchased the theater with plans to restore the historic downtown landmark to its former glory, but this time primarily as a live performance arts venue. The Uptown Theater reopened as a multi-use performing arts center in 2008. Spaces available for rent include the Studio Theater and the Uptown Theater and Lobby.
