North Texas winters don't exactly allow for frozen ponds, but that doesn't mean we can't take a spin on the ice -- real or not -- during the holidays. Here's a list of picture-perfect places to tie on the blades, glide 'round and have an icy good time.
Skate around what's billed as the tallest indoor Christmas tree in the country. For extra pizazz, catch Olympic champions Meagan Duhamel, Eric Radford, Patrick Chan, Meryl Davis and Charlie White perform during free shows at 6 p.m. on Dec. 1, 8, 15 and 22.
Skating Under the Stars
Visit a StarCenter location in Euless, Farmers Branch, Frisco, McKinney, Plano or Richardson for open skating with holiday music and cheery decorations. The StarCenter in Frisco offers special Winter Wonderland-themed skating from Dec. 18 through Dec. 27; photo ops with Santa at Dr Pepper Arena from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 18; and Skate With Santa on Dec. 20-22 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Allen Community Ice Rink
Open skating is available most days on a full-size ice surface. There will also be a special Drop & Shop Holiday Skate on Dec. 22 featuring games, activities and photos with Santa.

Skate the Square
Go for a spin on Frisco Square's real-ice rink, one of the fun attractions during Christmas in the Square. The rink is is open daily through Jan. 7 (except Christmas Day).
Panther Island Ice
Located at the Coyote Drive-In in Fort Worth, Panther Island Ice offers skating seven days a week through Jan. 8, including holidays. Snacks and drinks are available to purchase from the Coyote Canteen. In addition to discounts for military members and students, the rink offers half-price admission on Tuesdays and a $2 discount on Wednesdays with your donation of two canned goods to the Tarrant Area Food Bank.

Glacier Glide Ice Skating
Skate day or night at the Gaylord Texan's 6,000-square-foot rink outside the resort's convention center. Through Jan. 1. Price bundles are available for additional attractions, such as the Ice! sculpture extravaganza, snow tubing and more.

Skating Pond at Enchant Christmas
Besides all the pretty lights at Enchant Christmas, visitors can take a spin along an ice trail that meanders through larger-than-life holiday displays. Admission to Enchant is required, and then it's an additional $10 for skate rentals.

Forney on Ice
Outdoor rink at Forney Community Park is open daily through Jan. 6.

This quirky bar near Fair Park has installed a synthetic ice-skating rink in its parking lot. GuideLive's Tiney Ricciardi tried it out and reported that it's "essentially wax-covered plastic," and added, "if you fall, no worries -- because there's no ice, the rink isn't cold." Squarebody expects to keep the rink open for public skating and private parties through a TBA date in Jan.

Christmas in the Branch
Farmers Branch brings to North Texas a chance to ice skate under the stars at an outdoor rink. "Our traditional tour of lights drive thru display has been re-imagined to include this exciting interactive Christmas experience where you can now get out and play," organizers say.
