For the fourth consecutive year, Big D NYE is "on hiatus," confirms event executive director Jim Glass. The New Year's Eve celebration that took place at the doorstep of  American Airlines Center, in Dallas' Victory Park, will not take place on Dec. 31, 2018.

Big D NYE ran from 2007 through 2014 in Dallas and aired live as a New Year's Eve show on WFAA-TV (Channel 8). The popular, free event brought big crowds: more than 40,000 people in 2014.

In 2015, Big D NYE began shopping for a new place to host tens of thousands of people, after the partnership between WFAA and American Airlines Center dissolved.

Sine then, it's been the same song, different verse: GuideLive's Tiney Ricciardi reported in 2015, 2016 and 2017 that Glass couldn't find a suitable new home for a large-scale New Year's Eve event, after looking at dozens of options. ("We've looked at every major location that is possible to hold 30,000 to 40,000 [people] between the Red River and Waco," Glass said in 2016.)

Despite the long pause, Big D NYE might still return, Glass says.

But not this year.

"We just have not been able to secure a viable and interested venue that fulfills all of our needs," he says via email. Glass serves as WFAA's director of marketing and digital media.

"We remain open to any conversations going forward — but are not actively pursuing any single venue at this time," he says.
