North Texas winters don't exactly allow for frozen ponds, but that doesn't mean we can't take a spin on the ice -- real or not -- during the holidays. Here's a list of picture-perfect places to tie on the blades, glide 'round and have an icy good time.

Galleria Dallas 

Skate around what's billed as the tallest indoor Christmas tree in the country. For extra pizazz through Christmas Eve, catch the Illumination Celebration light show daily at 2, 4, 6 and 8 p.m. (no 8 p.m. show on Dec. 24).

The top places to see Christmas lights in D-FW

Dr Pepper StarCenter

Visit a StarCenter location in Euless, Farmers Branch, Frisco, McKinney, Plano or Richardson for open skating with holiday music and cheery decorations. The StarCenter in Frisco offers holiday skating through Dec. 24; Winter Wonderland-themed skating from Dec. 26 through Jan. 1; and Skate With Santa on Dec. 22 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Allen Community Ice Rink

Open skating is available most days on a full-size ice surface.

Skate the Square

Go for a spin on Frisco Square's real-ice rink, one of the fun  attractions during Christmas in the Square. The rink is is open daily through Jan. 3 (except Christmas Day). 
Mondays through Thursdays from  2 to 9 p.m., Fridays through Sundays from noon to 10 p.m. through Jan. 3 at the corner of Main and Coleman streets in Frisco. $12 admission; includes skate rental. friscosquare.com/ice-rink.

Panther Island Ice

Located at the Coyote Drive-In in Fort Worth, Panther Island Ice offers skating seven days a week through Jan. 15, including holidays. Snacks and drinks are available to purchase from the Coyote Canteen. In addition to a military discount, the rink offers half-price admission on Tuesdays and a $2 discount on Wednesdays with your donation of two canned goods to the Tarrant Area Food Bank.

Glacier Glide Ice Skating

Skate day or night at the Gaylord Texan's 6,000-square-foot rink outside the resort's convention center. Through Jan. 1.

Skating Pond at Enchant Christmas

Besides all the pretty lights at Enchant Christmas, visitors can take a spin on an ice pond. Admission to Enchant is required, and then it's an additional $5 to skate, with 100 percent of skate proceeds benefiting Kidd's Kids, Make-A-Wish North Texas and other area children's charities.
Daily from 5 to 11 p.m. through Dec. 31 (except Christmas Eve) at Globe Life Park, Lot F, 1000 Ballpark Way, Arlington. $5 in addition to Enchant ticket, which is $29.95 for adults, $21.95 for children 5-14, $21.95 for those 65 and older, free for kids 4 and younger. enchantchristmas.com.

Forney on Ice

This new holiday attraction at Forney Community Park is open daily through Jan. 2.

Dallas bar adds outdoor skating rink for the holidays and it's wonderfully campy

Squarebody Saloon

This quirky bar near Fair Park has installed a synthetic ice-skating rink in its parking lot. GuideLive's Tiney Ricciardi tried it out and reported that it's "essentially wax-covered plastic," and added, "if you fall, no worries -- because there's no ice, the rink isn't cold." Squarebody expects to keep the rink open for public skating and private parties through Jan. 21.
