Monday, May 30 is Memorial Day, and businesses around Dallas-Fort Worth are offering discounts and free food to commemorate the holiday. Here's where military personnel can get in on the action.

TJ's Seafood Market and Grill

Grab $2 East Coast oysters on Memorial Day at both TJ's locations in Dallas. The catch: You have to order at least a half dozen and dine onsite. The restaurant is sweetening the deal with half price beer and wine from 3-6 p.m. This offer is available to all diners, but on a first-come, first-served basis.

Hooters

Veterans and active service members eat free at Hooters on Monday, May 30. Available entrees vary by locations, but all that's necessary to get this deal is a drink purchase and a military ID. Offer is valid for dine-in customers only.

Smoke

This Oak Cliff hot spot, which recently received a shout-out in Garden & Gun magazine, is honoring veterans and active military personnel with half-off meals. The restaurant is open until 10 p.m. Monday.

Twin Peaks

Dallas-based breastaurant Twin Peaks is saluting the troops with a free entree for active and retired service members. The offer is available during lunch and dinner on Monday, and applies to a special menu of eats, which includes Philly cheesesteak, fish tacos, and chicken tenders. Bring your ID.

Mimi's Cafe

Military personnel, both active and retired, can snag a free entree at Mimi's Cafe locations throughout the region on several U.S. holiday weekends, including Memorial Day. The deal does, however, require signing up for the restaurant's eClub, which is free to do. In addition to registering, Mimi's requires members to purchase an entree and two drinks, then your second entree comes free. The deal applies Memorial Day (May 27-30), Flag Day (June 11-14), Independence Day (July 1-4), Bastille Day (July 14-17), Labor Day (Sept. 2-5) and Veterans Day (Nov. 11-13).

Sonny Bryan's Smokehouse

Order one of Sonny Bryan's barbecue family meals May 27-30 and receive a free pound of meat. The deal is only for to-go orders made by phone, online or in-person.

Perot Museum of Nature and Science

Beginning Memorial Day, veterans, active military members and first responders can gain free entry to the Perot Museum of Nature and Science in downtown Dallas. They also receive a $3 discount on each family member's entry fee up to six guests. The special runs through Labor Day. Right now, the museum is featuring a curated exhibit called Eye of the Collector, though that requires an additional ticket.

Other D-FW museums

Several museum in Dallas-Fort Worth have joined a coalition known as the Blue Star Museums, which offers free entry for military service members, active and retired, and up to five of their family members. The deal applies from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Participating museums include the Dallas Museum of Art, Meadows Museum, George Bush Presidential Library and Museum, Fort Worth Aviation Museum, Amon Carter Museum of American Art and more.
