The holiday season swung into full effect in Denton Friday with the annual lighting of the tree and festival on the town square.

Families, students and residents filled downtown to celebrate the 27th holiday lighting. During the festival, which started in 1988, businesses around the square hand out warm wassail, a seasonal drink comprised of apple cider and spices.
