This year in Dallas, New Year's Eve was particularly nerdy.
Tons of comic book and pop culture fans gathered at the Sheraton Hotel for Marvelous Nerd Year's Eve, an event that crossed a relatively typical comic convention with a collection of nightly parties with which to say goodbye to 2016 and usher in 2017.
There were also several celebrities in attendance. The biggest? Comic book legend Stan Lee, making what has been called his final appearance at a Texas convention. He celebrated his 94th birthday with a roast at the show.
Unfortunately, that may not have been enough to draw a huge crowd, as there are now reports of low attendance numbers that could prove to be problematic for Geek Expos, the company that put on the event. (We've heard unofficial numbers, but Geek Expos has not yet released anything official and concrete.) Many factors could have played into this, including the possibility of convention fatigue considering the sheer number of similar events in D-FW (not to mention Texas as a whole) throughout the year.
But one thing that didn't disappoint? Costumes. As you can expect from shows like these, passionate fans gave it their all when it came to cosplay.
Check out the gallery below for some costume highlights.
Before the show doors opened we also got some one-on-one time with a few of the show's celebrity guests, during which we asked them very hard-hitting questions, like how they would describe 2016.
