New 'Wonder Woman' trailer takes us back to World War I

Here we go, getting our hopes up for a DC Comics universe movie again.

Logic tells us that this could be a bad idea. While Man of Steel wasn't a total trainwreck, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice set the bar for this franchise far lower than any studio executives at Warner Bros. wanted it to be. Suicide Squad wasn't too much better.

Meanwhile, a future DC movie, The Flash, can't manage to keep a director, which has many viewers wondering what the heck is going wrong in all those meetings and why DC can't seem to come close to replicating what Marvel has done with their own characters on film.

But when you shove all of that aside: Dang, Wonder Woman looks pretty good.

We already saw Diana Prince, aka Wonder Woman (played by Gal Gadot) in Batman v. Superman, where she outsmarted Bruce Wayne and made it clear that she's been doing this "hero" thing for a very, very long time. The Wonder Woman film takes us back to the beginning — back to World War I. "The war to end all wars."

Setting Wonder Woman up as the catalyst for the rest of the franchise's modern heroics (similar to what Marvel did with Captain America, "The First Avenger") would be a cool move, especially since the current incarnations of Batman and Superman haven't exactly proven that they're up to the task of leading the Justice League.

Please be good, Wonder Woman. The world needs an awesome superhero movie starring a woman, and comic book fans need some renewed faith in the possibility for DC's characters on the big screen. Besides, Wonder Woman is an honorary U.N. ambassador now (following the recent 75th anniversary of the character), so she's gotta represent.
