Guide Geek: Meet the new Lara Croft and the new 'Doctor Who' companion

Doctor Who isn't coming back for its next season until 2017, but the BBC has already made a pretty big announcement about it: They've revealed The Doctor's new companion.

The relatively unknown actress Pearl Mackie will be playing Bill, and she'll be adventuring with The Doctor when the show returns next year. According to RadioTimes, Mackie beat more than 70 people who were being considered for the role, five of which were brought in to meet the current Doctor, Peter Capaldi.

We don't know much about Bill yet, but you can already see her in action. The BBC made the casting announcement with a clip of Bill and The Doctor running away from Doctor Who's most iconic enemies: The Daleks.

There's a new Lara Croft in town, and it's not who we expected. After rumors heavily suggested that Star Wars star Daisy Ridley was in talks for the Tomb Raider starring role previously held by Angelina Jolie, it's now being reported that the job has gone to Academy Award-winning actress Alicia Vikander.

The new Tomb Raider movie, like the newest Tomb Raider video games, will serve as a reboot for the franchise, taking archaeologist Lara Croft back to her first adventure.

Vikander recently won an Oscar for her performance in The Danish Girl, but she was also one of the main actors in Ex Machina and can be seen this summer in Jason Bourne.

Nintendo dropped a lot of news on people this week after an earnings call. Unfortunately, not all of it was good.

The most notable bit is that Nintendo's next console, the NX, launch in March of 2017, but it will not make an appearance at the Electronic Entertainment Expo this June as previously planned. Nintendo says they'll unveil the console at a different time later this year, but it's hard to feel like the clock isn't ticking, considering we know absolutely nothing about the system or what kinds of games it will play.

We do know one game it will have, though. The Legend of Zelda. The latest game in that series, which was previously announced to be in development for the Wii U, is also coming to the NX. The downside, though? Since the NX isn't coming out until next year, neither is Zelda. The game has been delayed yet again.
