The Hobbit, the classic book from J.R.R. Tolkien and the precursor to The Lord of the Rings, is often classified as a children's book. Like many of the best children's stories it can be enjoyed by people of all ages, but it's a pretty lighthearted story filled with songs, magic and elves.

So it's more than a little weird to hear that the extended edition of the third Hobbit movie, The Battle of the Five Armies, will be rated R.

Sure, the original cut of The Battle of the Five Armies was filled to the brim with fantasy violence, and the upcoming extended cut of the film will feature 20 minutes of additional footage that probably contains even more violence, but it's still hard to imagine what Peter Jackson filmed that is bumping the final Middle-earth film from PG-13 to R. I guess we'll find out when The Battle of the Five Armies Extended Edition hits theaters in October and hits Blu-ray and DVD in November.

Assassin's Creed

A movie that probably should be rated R based on its source material is the upcoming film adaptation of Assassin's Creed. Yahoo managed to snag the exclusive first look at the movie's star, Michael Fassbender, in costume as the assassin Callum Lynch, a brand new character created specifically for the movie. I've gotta say, they nailed the hooded look.

Yahoo says the film will start shooting on Monday, and it's scheduled to hit theaters on December 21, 2016.

Diesel is Groot

What the heck? Let's just keep this week's recap all about movies. In case you were worried about one of the heroes in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, rest assured that Vin Diesel will be reprising his role as the voice of Groot in the sequel. The movie's director, James Gunn, casually confirmed the news when talking to a fan on Facebook.

You might wonder why that's a big deal. I mean, Groot only ever says three words: "I am Groot." You'd think that just about any competent actor could pull that off. But Diesel showed an impressive amount of emotional range with those three words alone, so it's good to hear that he'll be back as everyone's favorite tree... alien... thing.
