Terry Pratchett, author of the 'Discworld' books, dies at age 66

Fantasy author Sir Terry Pratchett, author of more than 70 books including the popular Discworld series of books, had died. He was 66.

Pratchett was diagnosed with posterior cortical atrophy (PCA), a variation of Alzheimer's disease, back in 2007.

The announcement was posted on the website of Discworld merchandise website PJSM Prints, and was tweeted out by both the official Terry Pratchett Twitter account and by his daughter, writer Rhianna Pratchett.

In the announcement, Larry Finlay at Transworld Publishers said, "I was deeply saddened to learn that Sir Terry Pratchett has died. The world has lost one of its brightest, sharpest minds."

His final book was a new Discworld novel, which he completed in the summer of 2014.
