Texas matchmaking company hosts 'elevator speed dating' at Houston hotel

Last Thursday, Rose Matchmaking, a Texas-based dating company, held its first ever "Love in the Elevators" speed dating event for singles.

Hosted at the Omni Houston at Westside, the event had potential couples ride up and down in an elevator for one minute with a private three minute follow-up chat afterwards.

An article written by Carter Sherman for the Houston Press mentioned that couples are decided upon beforehand by Rose. Each person submitted a bio, what they looked for in a potential partner and a photo, but no one knew who their partner was until they stepped into the elevator.

While Rose traditionally focuses on more traditional matchmaking involving a profile and an interview, they also found that these speed dating sessions do produce at least a few couples.

When running speed dating events, Rose tries to make them more interesting than sitting at a table with someone for 15 seconds. In the past, they've done "pheromone parties" (guests brought used T-shirts to share and sniff) along with "speed dating in cars" where guests sat in Porsches to chat and occasionally drive around the block.

The idea for elevator speed dating surfaced two years ago, but wasn't put into action until now. Rose needed a glass elevator for people concerned about safety.

The event ran for two hours, so following the elevator ride and private chat singles (or new couples) could chat with anyone they wanted. People even came just to watch this peculiar meet-up.

Currently, this event has only been held in Houston, but we've reached out to Rose's Dallas office to see if anything like it would be coming here soon.
