It's a bit "surf and turf," but more "wade and shade."

Epic Waters — the 80,000-square-foot, climate-controlled water park in Grand Prairie — has unveiled its first addition since opening in January 2018. Epic Waves, an outdoor attraction featuring a 300,000-gallon wave pool with beachfront entry and covered patio, debuted May 4.

At Grand Prairie's new water park, it's a balmy 85 degrees all year long

Part of Epic Waters' appeal stems from the facility's UV-protected retractable roof. Because of it, the park can remain open year-round with indoor temperatures maintained at 85 degrees. That's a game-changer for parents in search of active fun during dreary fall and winter months, as well as those concerned about dangerous sun overexposure on North Texas' hottest summer days.

The new outdoor feature makes the experience further customizable. Epic Waves' 10,000-square-foot pool will surge with 4-foot waves at 10-minute intervals throughout the day, and strong swimmers with adventurous spirits can enjoy the ride on complimentary innertubes. Families with smaller children might appreciate a lower-key dip in the pool's shallow beachfront entry or supervising the fun from lounge chairs on the shaded deck.

When it's time for a break, guests can head indoors to enjoy water slides, a 600-foot lazy river, a FlowRider surfing simulator, arcade games, concessions and a laid-back aquatic playground for children under 48 inches tall.

The new outdoor wave pool will stay open through Labor Day before closing for the season, and access is included with general admission. Guests are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance, as weekend and holiday dates often reach capacity.

Epic Waters is at 2970 Epic Place, Grand Prairie. See website for hours. Single-day admission is $17-$34; children 3 and younger are admitted free. Parking is free. Prices vary for concessions, arcade games and cabana rentals. epicwatersgp.com.
