Stretch it out — for free

D-FW Free Day of Yoga Dallas Kick-Off Festival

Whether you're a seasoned yogi or looking to get into the practice, there will be opportunities to find a yoga class this weekend. That's because area studios and organizations are celebrating DFW Free Day of Yoga. Technically Labor Day is the "free day," but there are two noteworthy kick off events happening over the weekend. On Saturday, you can head to the Trinity River Audubon Center for mini classes and workshops, which run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Then on Sunday, folks are gathering at the Tandy Hills Natural Area in Fort Worth for a yoga class from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Other free local classes are listed at dfwfreedayofyoga.com.

Polka like you mean it

If you're up for a little road trip, the annual Westfest in the town of West, Texas is happening this weekend. Attendees can expect to find live polka music, dancing, kolache eating contests, carnival rides and more fun. The festival kicks off Friday night with a preview event featuring music from Roger Creager and runs through Sunday. Tickets cost $20 to attend on Friday and $10 the rest of the weekend.

You've got the blues

Impressive Riverfront Jazz Festival on Labor Day Weekend could 'cross cultural, racial, religious boundaries,' founder says

Those in the mood for some blues music will have two festivals to choose from. First is the Riverfront Jazz Festival at Texas Horse Park in Dallas, featuring headliner Erykah Badu. Tickets range $50 for single-day access to $135 for a weekend pass.

The cheaper option is going to be in the suburbs where Buddy Guy is headlining the Bedford Blues and BBQ Festival. General admission to that event is free on Friday, and starts at $7 for general admission Saturday and Sunday. Reserved seating is available, but it'll cost you a little bit more for those tickets.

Don't go to Irving Music Factory

Irving Music Factory delays Dave Chappelle opening-night gig, cancels Brad Paisley concert

It's worth noting that the opening of the long anticipated Irving Music Factory has been delayed. The massive music venue and entertainment complex was supposed to open Labor Day weekend with comedian Dave Chappelle, but construction has pushed back the date to Sept. 9 when ZZ Top is expected to play. Chappelle's shows have been rescheduled for October, while others have been relocated or cancelled. Check the venue's website for full details.

Tiney Ricciardi offers her weekend event picks every Thursday morning at 7:40 a.m. on 570AM KLIF.
