Come on in, the water's fine for dogs at area water parks and swimming pools. As summer draws to a close, many facilities will open their gates for end-of-season events where canines of all sizes can splash, swim and beat the heat. Doggies can participate in competitive games and contests, or just look adorable in their best beachy costumes.

Bedford: 2015 2K-Nine & Dog Splash Day

2015 2K-Nine and Dog Splash Day

Get an early start walking or running with your pet at the 2K-Nine at the Boys Ranch Activity Center. Then it's time to jump in the water at the adjacent Bedford Splash. Besides water play, doggy athletes can compete in diving and retrieving contests, or strut in a costume contest. To attend either or both events, call 817-952-2323 and pre-register by 5 p.m. on Sept. 11. Dogs must have proof of current rabies shots and city license.

Dog Jog and Paws in the Pool

Dogs and their human companions can run or walk in Cedar Hill's first-ever Dog Jog 3K in Crawford Park, then enjoy a cool pool party. Proof of rabies vaccination must be shown at the gate. Proceeds from these events benefit Friends of Tri-City Animal Shelter.

Aug. 15 from 7:30 a.m. to noon at Crawford Park, 401 Straus Road. Jog registration is $12 for dogs, free for humans. Run starts at 7:30 a.m. with check-in and pre-race warmups at 6:30. Hawaiian-themed fun is planned for this year's event at Hawaiian Falls in The Colony. Take your dogs (limit two per owner) for swimming, splashing, games and contests. New this year: The first hour, 1 to 2 p.m., is reserved for small dogs (35 pounds or under) only. A portion of the proceeds from the Luau benefits The Colony Animal Shelter Injured Animal Fund.

Garland Pawsibilities hosts the 10th annual Dog-A-Poolooza, a festival of fun and dog-related services. Dogs can take a dip in the large pool or the wading pools. A fenced area will be reserved for small dogs (under 30 pounds). The festivities include a number of on-site services including dog wash and nail trimming, low-cost vaccinations and microchipping. Wondering what your pooch is thinking? Pet psychic Sandra Larson will be available for pet readings, $20 for 15 minutes. Attendees can also visit with rescue groups and pet supply vendors. Dogs must have tags or proof of current rabies vaccination. Proceeds support Garland Pawsibilities and its ongoing programs, the Pet Adoption Center and Garland shelter animals.

Canines and humans can go Hawaiian at the seventh annual charity event at Hawaiian Falls in Garland. Guests and their pets can float down the Kona Kooler Lazy River and splash in the water park's wave pools. Separate pool areas will be designated for large and small breeds. Pet tricks and costume contests will be offered, and the first 500 guests will receive free goody bags. Dogs should have proof of vaccinations and current rabies shots and must be spayed or neutered. Humans must have signed waivers.
