Rise Southern Biscuits and Righteous Chicken is opening soon in Dallas

The first of 20 locations planned for North Texas will open in Victory Park.

Editor’s note: This story was updated to include the restaurant’s opening date.

Rise Southern Biscuits and Righteous Chicken, a North Carolina-based chain known for having some of the best biscuits in the country, is coming back to Texas.

Its first Texas location opened in Allen in 2017, when the chain was known as Rise Biscuits and Donuts. Despite lines out the door on weekends, the restaurant closed shortly after opening, and its Austin location shuttered soon after that. But the brand is now making its Texas re-entry with a new name, and less emphasis on the doughnuts.

North Texas couple Ashwin Reddy and Isha Vedire are bringing the biscuit and chicken franchise to North Texas and will open a location in Dallas’ Victory Park May 4, 2024, according to a news release. A location in North Fort Worth will follow soon after. In total, 20 restaurants are planned for North Texas.

Buttermilk biscuits made fresh daily are the star of the show at Rise Southern Biscuits, but fried chicken is a close second. The company, which was started by the late chef Tom Ferguson in 2012 in Durham, N.C., as a biscuit and doughnut shop, rebranded in 2019 and put the focus on chicken and savory biscuits.

Rise’s reinvented menu now centers around breakfast biscuits and chicken sandwiches with cheddar tater tots, fried okra, grits and pimento cheese as sides. A section of the menu is also dedicated to vegetarian biscuits and sandwiches made with chicken and sausage alternatives. Sweet tea and Counter Culture coffee anchor the drink list.

The Dallas restaurant will have some seating for dining in, but the “tech-forward” space is designed for quick service and easy pickup with heated food lockers designated for grab-and-go orders.
