Cowboy Chicken has reopened in Dallas after kitchen fire

Cowboy Chicken near Greenville Avenue and Lovers Lane has reopened after a two-month closure. The restaurant shuttered the morning of June 11 after a structure fire started in the kitchen.

The fire was deemed accidental, says Dallas Fire-Rescue public information officer Jason Evans.

"Everyone at Fire Station 55 responded really quickly," says Sean Kennedy, CEO of Cowboy Chicken. "They kept our staff safe and were able to put out the fire before it spread."

The restaurant didn't show damage from the outside, Evans reports. The fire was extinguished within less than 20 minutes and damage was mostly in the duct work connecting to the ventilation system in the kitchen, Evans notes. The restaurant also had to do some work on the roof, Kennedy says.

Cowboy Chicken is a fast-casual restaurant that first opened in Dallas in 1981. It has grown to more than 20 restaurants in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Georgia and California.

The Greenville Avenue restaurant is planning a fundraiser for the Dallas Fire Department on Aug. 24 from noon to 2 p.m. Cowboy Chicken will give 15% of the proceeds to the Dallas Fire Department, and they plan to have a fire truck and first responders on site for photos.

The reopened Cowboy Chicken is located at 5315 Greenville Ave., Dallas.
