As students in Dallas-Fort Worth prepare to go back to school, restaurants are preparing free lunches for their young customers.

"We believe the best source of power for your child's brain is a good meal," says Blythe Grates, Firebird Restaurant Group Senior Marketing Director. A host of restaurants are handing out free meals to kids.

Restaurants offering freebies to D-FW kids in August 2019:

Snuffer's Restaurant & Bar, known for its burgers and cheddar fries, is offering free meals for kids from Aug. 1 through Aug. 18. Adults are required to purchase one entree and need to show a free kids' meal coupon. Snuffer's operates nine restaurants in North Texas; find one here

Bonus from Snuffer's: After the free kids meal deals end on Aug. 18, the restaurant will hand out plates of free small cheddar fries on Aug. 19 in honor of National Potato Day. (You don't even have to be a kid!) Find the coupon online before Aug. 19.

Lamberti's Ristorante and Wine Bar in Las Colinas is offering free meals for kids 11 and under with the purchase of an adult entree. The deal runs through August. Lamberti's is located at 7701 N. MacArthur Blvd., Irving.

3 bites of El Fenix history on the Dallas restaurant's 100th birthday

El Fenix Mexican Restaurant is running a kids-eat-free deal, too, now through Aug. 18. The deal is dine-on only and has been running at some locations for most of the summer. Customers who purchase one adult entree get up to two free kids meals. Find an El Fenix here; the WinStar location is not participating. Before you go, get the coupon here.

Greenville Avenue Pizza Company is doing a swap: Bring school supplies on Aug. 5 and get a free slice of one-topping pizza. Technically, you don't have to be a kid or a student to play along. The school supplies go to students at Ignacio Zaragoza Elementary and Truett Elementary in Dallas. Preferred donations include new packages of pencils, pens, notebooks or folders. Both GAPCos are participating: 1923 Greenville Ave. and 1145 Peavy Road, both in Dallas. The drive runs 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 5.

Village Burger Bar is also letting kids eat free Aug. 1 through Aug. 18. The deal is good only at the restaurant near Inwood Road and the Dallas North Tollway, at 12300 Inwood Road, Dallas, and only for dine-in. Customers must buy an adult entree. Coupon here.

Pollo Campero is testing "bottomless" French fries on Wednesdays this fall. It isn't only in August; the deal extends through Oct. 16. Customers will buy one French fry and get free refills while they dine in. Customers don't have to be students. Valid at three of the six Pollo Camperos in D-FW: in Arlington, Farmers Branch and on Webb Chapel in Dallas. Details.
