Plano matcha shop offering 'level 5' matcha ice cream for a limited time

If the typical cup of joe isn't working for you, Meccha Matcha in Plano might have just what you need for your caffeine kick.

To celebrate their one-year anniversary on June 15, the matcha-centric shop is offering "level five" matcha ice cream for a limited time, plus giveaways. The higher the level, the more concentrated the matcha powder is, says Meccha Matcha owner Joseph Be. Usually they only have three levels at the store. Be says he's not exactly sure how much caffeine is in the level 5 matcha ice cream, but level 3 has "definitely more than a cup of coffee," so beware.

Be says matcha tea has a lot of health benefits and "it mixes with every flavor: sour, sweet, salty."

Matcha is a blend of crushed green tea leaves in pure powder form. At Meccha Matcha they use a ceremonial grade of matcha powder that comes from young tea leaves from a tea farm in Uji, Japan.

Meccha also makes lattes, soft serve ice cream and floats, all made with matcha. Be says he wants to bring matcha to the whole population.

"I know not everyone likes matcha and that might be because they went to a bad place. We're the real thing," Be says.
