Batter up: 2-pound chicken strip leads off Rangers’ ballpark food lineup on opening day

Go big. Then go home.

The Texas Rangers' concessions team is selling some shocking snacks for the 2019 season. After a game at Globe Life Park, you're going to want to go home — for a nap.

The biggest newcomer at the ballpark is a 2-pound piece of fried chicken called the Fowl Pole. Like many of the oversized gut-busters before it, this giant hunk of meat comes in a cardboard carrying case with a handle. It's the same holder — one we called a "hot-dog suitcase" — used for the Boomstick, a 24-inch loaded chili dog that helped kick off the Rangers' colossal concessions in 2012.

Or with:

Over the years, Globe Life Park has sold a 24-inch brownie dipped in funnel cake batter and fried; a 2-pound bacon cheeseburger that could feed a family of four; a 24-inch tamale dog; and a chicken sandwich the size of a Frisbee.

But also, the Rangers have added new vegan options, cold brew coffee on tap and even healthy sides like hummus in recent years. Everything in moderation.

The Fowl Pole will be a talker. This 2-pound chicken tender costs $27.50 and comes on a bed of waffle fries with honey mustard and ranch on the side.

For that same price, $27.50, groups can get the Fantastic Family Meal: a jumbo dog, a foot-long corny dog and chicken tenders, all served with a "Texas sized portion of fries and dipping sauces," says a press release.

The RWB (Red, White and Blue) Dog is the most colorful. This $11 offering comes with Lone-Star-State-colored relish atop a beef hot dog. The relish is made with Best Maid Pickles, headquartered in Mansfield, and it's made by a company called Glorious Gherkins, based in Dallas.

Another eye-popping addition is right-field bacon bombs for $11. It's a provolone cheese stick wrapped in strips of bacon and fried, served with Sweet Baby Ray's barbecue sauce.

Two dishes have State Fair flair: There's the fried PB&J for $10 and a "State Fare corn dog" — a foot-long hot dog, battered and fried and topped with chili for $11.75.

For vegan offerings, the ballpark is selling a Beyond Meats vegan burger for $15 and vegan tacos for $10. Vegetarians can order a veggie wrap for $10. Healthier meat options include a new grilled chicken salad for $7.50 and a chipotle chicken wrap for $10.

And early risers can try breakfast on a stick: sausage, wrapped in bacon, battered and fried and served with syrup for $8.

The ballpark will also sell pastor, chicken or brisket tacos for $12.50 and bacon-wrapped wings served with fries for $10.75. Inside the Rebecca Creek Saloon, which is open to the public, fans can find baja fish tacos, for $13; a steak sandwich for $16; a grilled chicken sandwich for $13; a cobb salad for $14.25; a burger with Rebecca Creek Whiskey barbecue sauce for $15; and a $9 ice cream sundae.

Soda fans can buy a commemorative stein for $20 that's refillable for $1 all season. And sweets fans will find a Belgian waffle sundae with two scoops of Blue Bell for $13.50.

Just a word of advice: Don't try all of these in one sitting.
