The parent company for Taco Cabana announced that it has closed nine restaurants in Texas, with five of those in Dallas-Fort Worth.

In addition, parent company Fiesta Restaurant Group closed all the Pollo Tropicals in Atlanta and several others in Florida. Dallas-Fort Worth was not affected, because the remaining 13 Pollo Tropicals in North Texas closed in 2017.

25 Taco Buenos have closed in Plano, Southlake, Dallas, Irving and more

The company says it's completing a "strategic renewal plan" for Taco Cabana and Pollo Tropical. A spokeswoman confirms that more closures of Taco Cabanas in Dallas-Fort Worth are not expected in 2019 or the remainder of 2018.

In the future, Taco Cabana will be rebranded and have a new catering operation, company President and Chief Executive Officer Richard Stockinger said in a press release.

Did a Taco Cabana near you close? Here's a list of the closures in North Texas:

  • 568 Interstate 30, Rockwall
  • 3232 E. Hebron Parkway, Carrollton
  • 245 E. Interstate 20, Weatherford
  • 2301 N. Tarrant Parkway, Fort Worth
  • 5745 S. Hulen St., Fort Worth

The remaining four Taco Cabanas that closed in Texas include: two in San Antonio, one in Houston and one in Longview.

Earlier in December, fast-food competitor Taco Bueno announced a fleet of closures as well. That company is up to 25 closed Taco Buenos in Dallas-Fort Worth since fall 2018. A much smaller taco operation, Yucatan Taco Stand, closed on Greenville Avenue in Dallas in October. And TacQui in Richardson closed in November. But where a taco shop closes, another one might open: Bartaco made its debut near Highland Park this week, and Tacos Mariachi opened in Dallas in early December.
