Look inside the most Instagrammable McDonald's in Texas

The McDonald's near Belt Line and Plano roads in Richardson doesn't look like much from the outside. It's a Mickey D's: a boxy building that sells Big Macs. But inside, it's one of the most Instagram-worthy fast-food restaurants in the region.

Right, we're still talking about a McDonald's.

When owner/operator Jonathan Chan decided to renovate his existing McDonald's fast-food joint in 2017, he wanted to do something unique. After all, he was introducing North Texas to the McCafe, which is essentially a coffee shop counter within the McDonald's, selling espresso drinks and house-baked pastries. Ooh la la.

Chan hired Dallas firm Coeval Studio, which designed trendy Dallas hotspots like Happiest Hour and Stirr, to make Mickey D's pop. Partners John Paul Valverde and Miguel Vicens hung rolling pins from the ceiling of the entryway and installed a neon sign advertising the "Hot, Flaky, Fresh" croissants and muffin toppers.

Unlike some McDonald's locations, patrons can place their order via kiosk and settle into one of the cushioned booths with golden-arches-yellow pillows. You're going to want to bring your phone.

It's been open since May 2017 and certainly doesn't look like any other McDonald's in the country.
