A cozy little Thai shop in Uptown Dallas is about to get the Guy Fieri treatment. A 30-minute episode featuring CrushCraft Thai will air on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives on March 9 at 8 p.m. on the Food Network.
CrushCraft joins a list of five other Dallas-area restaurants that Fieri visited in fall 2017 when he was here hosting a kids' cooking contest at the State Fair of Texas. The other five restaurants, detailed here, premiered on the show in January and February; the CrushCraft date was unknown back then.
This means two things, foodies!
- Schedule your DVRs for Friday, March 9.
- Go eat at that delightful, colorful restaurant before everybody else hears about it.
The CrushCraft team cooked three dishes for Fieri and his film crew: phat ke mow (drunken noodles with chicken, basil, bell peppers, onions tomatoes and chiles); kheo wan (green coconut curry with chicken and jasmine rice); and green papaya salad.
Tan Nuchkasem, the son of owner Jack Nuchkasem, says it's been inspiring to see Triple D cover ethnic restaurants -- some of which don't seem to fit the mold of a diner, drive-in or dive. In January, the show also featured Dallas restaurant Nora, an Afghan restaurant.
He was also impressed with Fieri's knowledge with CrushCraft's food -- a theme among other Dallas-area restaurant owners, too. "He was really versed in Thai food," Tan said after meeting Fieri during the filming in 2017. "He just knew the ingredients."
A feature on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives has the potential to change a business's sales overnight. For CrushCraft, a family business built on Jack's mother's recipes from Bangkok, Thailand, the family says the opportunity is one-of-a-kind.
It's nice timing, too, because CrushCraft is opening a second restaurant in 2018 at The Star in Frisco, a rapidly expanding development near the new HQ for the Dallas Cowboys.
"I think we were just blown away, truthfully, when Food Network reached out," Tan says.
The original CrushCraft Thai is located at 2800 Routh St. in Uptown Dallas. The Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives episode featuring CrushCraft is called "International Intrigue" and will air at 8 p.m. March 9 on Food Network.
