Dallas barbecue joint Pecan Lodge is launching a new tradition: Tamale Tuesdays

Starting Dec. 12, smack in the middle of the Christmas tamale season, Pecan Lodge is smokin' with its new, weekly Tamale Tuesdays.

On Tamale Tuesdays, Pecan Lodge will sell three tamales with red and green sauce, rice and beans inside the Deep Ellum restaurant.

Or, take those tamales home by ordering (online or in store) Christmas tamales by the dozen, between now and Dec. 24.

Your options are pulled pork with tomatillo filling, or brisket with red chile sauce. And read carefully now, because there is a right answer as to which one you choose.

The brisket tamales are ... how should we say ... the best thing since sliced brisket. They're smoky and moist. You need these Texified Christmas tamales in your life.

Should you prefer pork, those are well-seasoned and traditional. Give 'em a dab of salsa verde de Luis, a green sauce named for the longtime staff member and chef who came up with the recipe, for a kick of heat. But if you can choose only one meat, you'd be crazy not to pick the brisket tamales from one of the state's best smoked brisket shops.

To-go tamales cost $18 per dozen. Sides of salsa rojo de Luis (red sauce) or salsa verde de Luis (green sauce), cost $8.50.

Tamales available now through Dec. 24. Customers can preorder online and pick up at the commissary, 1618 W. Commerce St., Dallas, on Dec. 24. Or buy frozen during business hours at Pecan Lodge, 2702 Main St., Dallas.
