Plano burger joint The Royale launches kooky, Wes Anderson-themed restaurant in Dallas in 2018

Walk into the Royale Magnificent Burgers in West Plano and you're transported onto what feels like the set of a Wes Anderson film, where birdcages are chandeliers and onion rings come stacked on a miniature giraffe's neck. Eclectic is a word.

That odd aesthetic will pop up on Maple Avenue in 2018, where a new The Royale in Dallas will be sandwiched between Italian restaurant Sprezza and Kansas City fancy barbecue joint 18th & Vine.

Unlike the Plano original, this new Royale will have two stories, and co-owner Richard Ellman plans to turn the upstairs into a bar.

Brent Hammer, chef at the Plano restaurant, will also be in charge of the kitchen at the new Dallas restaurant. The menu of burgers, fries and milkshakes will remain the same.

Ellman operates Apheleia Restaurant Group with his wife Tiffanee Ellman. The group also owns Oak, Pakpao Thai and El Bolero, each of which launched in the Dallas Design District.

There's more to come for Apheleia besides the new Royale in Dallas. The Ellmans are opening two new restaurants in Fort Worth's newly-rebranded Crockett Row area: an El Bolero and a Pakpao. Separately, they're working on a two-story El Bolero, expected to open on Fitzhugh in Dallas in several months.
