The new Plano restaurant at the buzzy Legacy West complex is excessive, as any Texas steakhouse might be. The two-story restaurant has 9,000 bottles of wine on display in glass cases, the most expensive of which is a $5,650 bottle from France. And yet, it sits in a corner, within eyeshot of diners who know to look for it and perfectly nondescript for those who don't.

Plano's new Del Frisco's lends a sophisticated seat for those who need to impress a business colleague. It also has a vibrant bar and cozy-looking booths that make this grandiose place feel fun.

Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steak House opened May 3 in Legacy West, and if you can believe it, reservations aren't necessarily required. The place seats about 460 people — which sounds giant, doesn't it? — but it's the same size as most of the other Del Frisco's in Boston, Denver, Las Vegas, Chicago, New York City and elsewhere.

Of course, Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steak House has a history in Dallas. Its longest-living steakhouse was on Spring Valley Road, that behemoth building in the Addison area that closed in 2016 so it could split its differences, opening at a sparkly new Uptown Dallas address in late 2016 and now serving diners in the Dallas 'burbs with the Plano restaurant in mid-2017.

Del Frisco's regulars won't find much different on the Plano menu. Company execs know better than to mess with a menu that works, says Kim Owens, vice president of operations.

"People love what they love. There's a cut for everyone," Owens says.

But in addition to your filets, strips and ribeyes, the Plano steakhouse will have a new dry-aged steak program, with prices ranging from $52 to $66. It will also add a "simply prepared fish" option that might include halibut, salmon, scallops and the like, often served with clarified butter, lemon and salt.

The restaurant's upstairs bar, the Eagle's Nest, offers a perch for diners to look out over the comings and goings of Legacy West shoppers. Also upstairs are Eagle 1 and Eagle 2, private dining rooms that can be booked together or separately and seat 36 and 48 people.

Up in the Eagle's Nest, some of the steakhouse's best spirits are on display. Bourbon drinkers, take note: They've got no shortage of Pappy Van Winkle.

On the first floor, there's another private dining room — this one visible from the front door for up to 28 guests who might prefer to see and be seen — plus an oversized circular bar and two main dining rooms. Each has its own feel: You want a lively atmosphere? The downstairs bar it is. Want to have a business conversation? Main dining room. Want a combination of the two? Try the other dining room behind the bar.

Like the other Del Frisco's restaurants, this place is made for people who want to be VIPs.

"It's more than just dinner," Owens says, "it's an event."

Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steak House joins Shake Shack as some of the earliest restaurants open at Legacy West, a $400 million project in Plano at the Dallas North Tollway and Legacy Drive. Legacy West will also have a True Food Kitchen, Sprinkles cupcakes, Toulouse and many other restaurants, plus a food hall and a brewery.

Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steak House opens for dinner May 3 at 5905 Legacy Drive, Plano, at Legacy West. It will serve lunch and dinner Monday through Friday; dinner only on Saturdays and Sundays.
