Eateries in Dallas-Fort Worth are offering great deals on pizza (and other pies) on March 14. That’s the important thing to know. To understand why, we must dig a little deeper.

How much high school math do you remember? Hopefully enough to appreciate the unofficial math-food holiday known as Pi Day. Pi, you may (or may not) remember is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. Math whizzes know it as 3.1415926535897932384626433832795028841971693993751058209749445923078164062862089986280348253421170679821480865132823066470938.

What does this have to do with pies, you ask? Well, my friends, you can’t spell “pizza” or "pie" without “pi.” Stick with me:

A pie is a circle. Pi measures circles. Pi is 3.14, and turned into a date, that's March 14. See?

So, go score some pie and contemplate the infinite nature of pi. Mathematicians have calculated more than one trillion digits of the number, so you’ve got a lot to think about (and eat).

Here are some local Pi Day deals in Dallas-Fort Worth:

Blaze Pizza is offering $3.14 pizzas (limit one per guest) in-store only at participating locations. Customers can also follow Blaze Pizza on Facebook Live or view the chain’s Snapchat story on March 14 for a chance to win free pizza. Four locations: 841 E. Lamar Blvd., Arlington; 5050 SH 121, The Colony; 3311 Preston Road, Frisco; 5925 Convair Drive, Fort Worth.

Your Pie in Frisco will sell pizzas, craft beers and combos for $3.14. 5110 Eldorado Parkway, Frisco.

For those more interested in the dessert version of pi(e), Norma’s Cafe is donating a portion of all sales on March 14 to the School for the Talented and Gifted’s robotics team, and there will be in-store giveaways at all four locations. Four locations: 1123 W. Davis St.,  Dallas; 17721 N. Dallas Parkway #130, Dallas; 8300 Gaylord Parkway #19, Frisco; 9100 N. Central Expressway, Suite 151, Dallas.

A slice of pizza at Greenville Avenue Pizza Company, normally $4, will be $3.14 on Pi Day. 1923 Greenville Ave., Dallas.

All pies at Pie Tap Pizza Workshop + Bar will be $10 from 4 p.m. until close on 3/14. 1212 Oak Lawn Ave. #131, Dallas.

How hard are you willing to work for pie? Emporium Pies will give you a free slice of pie if you can name Pi to the 31st digit. They're also giving away free pi-themed buttons, while supplies last. 314 N Bishop Ave., Dallas.
