More proof of a tough 2016: Good 2 Go Taco in East Dallas has closed

Good 2 Go suffered challenging sales in the second half of 2016 -- a story too many Dallas restaurateurs have also told.

East Dallas shop Good 2 Go Taco will close in early January. Employees will serve tacos "until the food runs out," it was announced on Jan. 2.

Judging by the hundreds of comments on the farewell Facebook post, don't expect Good 2 Go's tacos to last long, owner Jeana Johnson confirms.

Good 2 Go suffered challenging sales in the second half of 2016 -- a story too many local restaurateurs have also told. Luscher's Red Hots in Deep Ellum closed in December, as did Resto Gastro Bistro in West Dallas and Clark Food & Wine Co. on Lowest Greenville. Remedy, another Lowest Greenville restaurant, closed on New Year's Eve to make way for a different concept.

Fortune story called "Why 2016 has been a lousy year for restaurants" forecasted continued declining sales for casual dining establishments. Fast-food places such as McDonald's and Wendy's weren't immune, either.

"As everyone knows, the latter part of 2016 has been very hard on a lot of businesses," Johnson shared. She doubts that Good 2 Go will be resurrected at another address.

Cow Tipping Creamery, an ice cream shop that shared a space with Good 2 Go, has also closed. Cow Tipping has plans to open in Carrollton and Frisco in 2017.

Good 2 Go opened in 2009 inside the Green Spot gas station near White Rock Lake in Dallas. "We felt like we were blazing a trail with our chefs' take on the humble taco," the Facebook post says. The current location of Good 2 Go, near East Dallas heavy hitters Goodfriend and 20 Feet, helped establish that nook of East Dallas as a delicious destination.

Good 2 Go was featured on The Best Thing I Ever Ate, a show on Food Network.

The restaurant served mostly breakfast, with you pick 'em tacos with ingredients such as egg, chorizo, brisket or bacon. It also had inventive lunch tacos such as a spicy chicken with basmati rice, yogurt and cilantro; and a waffle-battered fried chicken taco.
