SusieCakes, a California-based bake shop, is making North Texas sweeter. The company launched its first-in-Texas shop six months ago in Dallas and is now expanding to Plano.
At the Dallas shop, SusieCakes joined a seriously competitive cake corner, with Carlo's Bakery, Sprinkles cupcakes and Hospitality Sweet all at that same Preston-and-Northwest-Highway sweet (and hot) spot.
The Plano shop pops up at another high-traffic intersection: Park & Preston.
SusieCakes prides itself on being a simple shop. "If it wasn't done in 1950, we don't do it," owner Susan "Susie" Sarich told GuideLive in April 2016. Sarich learned to bake from her grandmothers Mildred and Madeline, and her shop is stocked with layer cakes, cupcakes and whoopie pies on a backdrop of retro-chic teal walls.
The most popular cake is the vanilla confetti cake with that iconic color -- "SusieBlue" frosting.

SusieCakes, expected to open Oct. 29, will be located at 4909 W. Park Blvd (at Preston Road), Plano.
