Sometimes fans' voices are actually heard. Just ask the trekkies whose letter writing campaign helped the original Star Trek live long and prosper. Or, #Brexit voters who thought their votes wouldn't actually count. (Boo, hiss, too soon.) Actually, just take it from fans of Whataburger's hefty Sweet & Spicy Bacon Burger, who busily begged the social media savvy company all year for the return of last summer's hit limited-time-only sandwich.

Some might say, rumors of its return signaled more anticipation than the resurrection of Jon Snow.

Taste-test: Whataburger's new Sweet & Spicy Bacon Burger

And so, the long, bitter winter of discontent is over: Whataburger's special release is back on menus as of 3 p.m. on June 27.

The recipe "proves opposites really do attract," a release says, with an "ideal balance of flavors" that include two 100 percent beef patties, bacon, grilled onions, Monterey Jack and American cheeses, mustard and Whataburger's Sweet & Spicy Pepper Sauce.

Last summer, food writer Sarah Blaskovich was one of the first in Dallas to try out the massive sandwich. A few tips:

-- It's big. Way big. Come hungry.
-- The Sweet & Spicy Sauce is on the sweeter side; don't be scared you can't take the heat.
-- Get ready to say goodbye. It's back, again, for a limited time.

Devoted fans, take a bow. Your tireless efforts have saved us all:
