R Taco, formerly known as Rusty Taco, is sprouting a new Dallas location.
The new restaurant is expected to open Dec. 11 in place of Snookie's, a low-key burger and chicken-fried steak place that occupied that location, near the intersection of Lemmon and Oak Lawn avenues, for more than a quarter of a century.
R Taco changed its name from Rusty Taco after Buffalo Wild Wings Inc. purchased a majority stake in the company, business writer Karen Robinson-Jacobs reported back in September. The company was named for its late owner Russell "Rusty" Fenton. Denise Fenton, Rusty's widow, remains involved with the company.
R Taco will continue to expand under the guidance of Buffalo Wild Wings Inc. A new restaurant in Mesquite is expected to open in January.
Denise Fenton doesn't expect "any major changes" to the R Taco brand despite the new ownership, she says.
"We are not undergoing any menu or pricing changes at this time," she says via email. "Our guests who know and love Rusty Taco will recognize that R Taco is a continuation of who we are and what we value."
The R Taco on Oak Lawn Avenue will have a larger dining space than the other locations, Fenton says.
"We are thrilled to be a part of this neighborhood and community," she says.
Expected to open Friday, Dec. 11. Hours will be Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 6 a.m. to 1 a.m., and Sunday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. 3604 Oak Lawn Ave., Dallas. rustytaco.com.
