Rex's Seafood, a market and restaurant, now open in Lakewood

Rex's Seafood has waded into Lakewood. The new restaurant, open as of Oct. 28, is located at Mockingbird Lane and Abrams Road.

Beyond seafood, Rex's will also sell a New York Strip, a filet, a bone-in rib-eye and a bone-in pork chop. "We're primarily a fish house," points out Tony Barraco, general manager. "[But] we're going to be the steak place to go to in this neighborhood."

Other than the added steaks and pork chop, Rex's will serve a menu very similar to the Lovers Lane original.

The new Rex's has a large patio with windows that will open into the bar. Patrons can eat outside, inside or order food to go from the market.

The restaurant will eventually have a full bar, but for now it's still waiting on its liquor license.

Owner Rex Bellomy opened his first eponymous restaurant and market on West Lovers Lane, near Inwood Road. A third Rex's is expected to open later this year at the Dallas Farmers Market.

Bellomy's new restaurant in Lakewood is expected to serve East Dallas, Lake Highlands and Highland Park, Barraco says. "We felt like this area was underserved and we could be a great force in the community."

The new Rex's replaces the former Genaro's Mexican Cuisine. Another new restaurant coming to that corner of Mockingbird and Abrams is a Dream Cafe, expected to open in early December.
