The name's Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken. But before it became "famous the world over," as the website says, Gus's was a small shack opened 60 years ago near Memphis, Tennessee.
Today, Gus's has spread to parts of Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, Georgia and a little town called Austin, Texas. North Texas is expected to get Gus's next year on W. Magnolia Avenue in Fort Worth, according to a press release.
There's nothing fancy about this restaurant, which serves its "famous" spicy fried chicken and sides such as mac and cheese, cole slaw and beans.
Gus's is a fit for Fort Worth because the Magnolia district "isn't overdeveloped," says franchisee Daniel Bryant in a statement. "We like to think of ourselves as the 'un-chain.' It will always just be about the chicken."
