Get your face stamped on a pancake this week in downtown Dallas

The phrase "pancake selfie" might not be a familiar one. A quick definition: A pancake selfie is a pancake with a laser photo of your face on the top.

And why not? It's just odd enough to be alluring.

That's the attitude of executives at Holiday Inn Express, who partnered with comedian Rob Riggle to get a pancake selfie truck on the streets. Several dozen people ambled up to the truck on Wednesday morning in downtown Dallas, curious what a Pancake Selfie Express could be.

Aha! Holiday Inn Express' plan is working.

Dallas is the pancake selfie truck's first stop on a nine-city tour. Curious (and hungry) people can get pancake portraits made for free Sept. 2, 3 and 4.

Just head to Pegasus Plaza from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and grab a number. When it's your turn, walk into the selfie tent, flash a big grin, and wait. Machines in front of the truck will then make a pancake and laser your selfie on it.

And then you eat it, which might sound a little alarming. It isn't. After one bite of a syrup-covered pancake, you'll totally forgive yourself for eating your identity.

The pancake-making machines are pretty cool, actually: They're 60-second ovens that squirt pancake batter on one end of a small, moving belt. The pancake is cooked from above and below until it reaches the end, when it gracefully plunks a golden-brown pancake on a plate.

The selfie schedule:

  • Sept 2, 3, 4 in Pegasus Plaza -- at Main and Akard Streets in downtown Dallas -- from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.
