Casual pizza place Five Creeks Tavern to open in Highland Park

Highland Park Village already has one new, casual restaurant in K.T. Burger, an offshoot of the popular Katy Trail Ice House in Uptown. Above K.T. Burger, the same operators plan to open Five Creeks Tavern on Sept. 1.

[UPDATE on Sept. 1: The opening didn't happen as planned. Stay tuned. The restaurant is still currently closed as of dinnertime on Sept. 1.]

Five Creeks will sell pasta, paninis and Neapolitan-style pizzas. Co-owner Buddy Cramer explained K.T. Burger and its upstairs Five Creeks as "neighborhood spots" in an interview in May. They're considerably more dressed-down than some of the designer shops nearby.

"We grew up around here and wanted to do something in our part of town," said Highland Park resident Cramer.

The restaurant will have a full bar, including 16 wines on tap. One of the specialty drinks will be the bellini, made according to the recipe from the internationally famous Harry's Bar in Venice.
