Thai restaurant expected to open on Oak Lawn July 6

On one wall of Kin Kin Urban Thai, several lines of text seem to tell a story about the place. Surely it's the restaurant's mission statement. Or maybe the owner's favorite quote.

Nope: It's Thai for "Bangkok."

The same artful display is posted in the chef-owner's Fort Worth restaurant -- a wayfinding symbol, almost, that you've arrived at the same place, but in Dallas.

Kin Kin Urban Thai is chef Eddy Thretipthuangsin's growing restaurant. The latest iteration is expected to open near Oak Lawn Avenue and Cedar Springs Road on July 6. Chef "Eddy T." formerly worked the kitchen at Pakpao in the Design District, then started his own American restaurant called Bite City Grill in Fort Worth, now closed. (Another Bite is expected to open in Richardson's CityLine project, a large-scale development that will cost about 1.5 billion.)

The chef went back to his Thai roots with Kin Kin. Oak Lawn restaurant will be Thretipthuangsin's second Kin Kin; a third is slated for Preston Hollow in August.

Kin Kin's menu is mostly traditional Thai dishes such as pork dumplings, curries and stir fries, but the chef has included this amusing dish: a burger with sticky rice patties for buns.
